Wilson's Kitchen, Southport - The Steaks are High
My name’s Codie, and I LOVE steak. It’s up there with my favourite foods and is probably 90% of the reason I’ve not yet managed to become vegetarian. I bloody love steak. (I enjoy it medium-rare, so you could say I love bloody steak!). So when I heard about Wilson’s Kitchen in Southport having a steak special on a Wednesday, and our anniversary happening to be on a Wednesday, it felt like fate - or at least a happy coincidence! For £30 (which is much cheaper than a normal meal-drink combo tends to be outside of McDonalds), we managed to get two rib-eye steaks, 2 sides and a bottle of house wine (or 4 bottles of beer but I’m not about that life). Even if the food had been average, we would have been pretty happy.
But the food was not average.
The food was incredible.
In fact, after three glasses of wine, I genuinely got tearful about how good my steak was. I’m not even ashamed of that fact. I enjoy good food. So sue me.
I ordered the string fries (with truffle oil… I’m not 100% sure what that is, except that it is wonderful and sounds fancy) and Steven ordered some beans which he tells me were delicious but I’m p sure he only ordered them so he didn’t have to share - I hate beans.
The steak was perfectly cooked. It just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth and was just wonderful. It’s not very often that we’ll go out for steak (saving for a wedding, y’know) but Steven cooks a pretty great supermarket one at home - I’d forgotten how amazing a chef-cooked steak could taste!
One thing that has rubbed off on me from Steven (oh-er matron), is appreciation for good, rustic decor and Wilson’s had it in (wooden) spades-full! From the geometric light fittings, to food being served on wooden slabs, even the copper salt and pepper shakers were thought out. The Wilson’s Kitchen branded napkins and individual moist wipes were such a great idea and the kind of little touch that really makes a difference.
Thankfully, the presentation of the food was up to the standard of the restaurant, and the view across Southport really finished it off.
The service was friendly and I genuinely don’t have a bad word to say about this place.
Same time next Wednesday?
